The chilly morning of March 9th marked the beginning of an unforgettable weekend as Canteen Australia celebrated the 25th anniversary of Life Cycle. Approximately 150 riders, supported by 50 crew members, embarked on a remarkable journey cycling from Bassendean in Perth to Busselton in Western Australia’s scenic southwest, covering between 290km and 408km over three days.

"What an incredible weekend it was for Life Cycle's 25th Anniversary," expressed Matt Bonser, a former Canteen Youth Ambassador. Matt returned to ride and fundraise, alongside community supporters, Canteen Youth Leaders and Canteen staff Ash Rosindale, Raul Caceres, and Lindi Dunn.

The weekend was not just about the physical challenge but also about the heartfelt stories shared by our WA Youth Leaders. WA Youth Leader Charlie completed the ride on a Mountain and Hybrid bike, while Matt Bonser rode in his 10th Life Cycle event, showcasing his commitment to Canteen's cause.

The support extended beyond the riders, with Canteen staff members like Ash Rosindale, Lindi Dunn, and Raul Caceres exemplifying determination and enthusiasm. They not only conquered physical challenges but also raised $11,000 toward the $170,000 fundraising total.

“There was heart-warming support from local communities, offering fresh produce to our riders, delicious plums, apples, oranges and much more along the way,” shared Canteen Executive Director of Operations and Team Canteen rider Raul Caceres.

Talks from Canteen CEO Peter Orchard, WA State Manager Ash Rosindale and WA Youth Leaders added a touch of inspiration to the nightly stopovers. These heartfelt speeches and personal reflections resonated strongly with Life Cycle riders, crew and volunteers, emphasising the importance of resilience and community support in overcoming challenges.

The dedication of Life Cycle riders and supporters helped raise over $170,000 for Canteen Australia, bringing Canteen close to $3 million raised over the years for Life Cycle On Road and Off Road, which is scheduled to take place later this year.

Thank you to everyone who made this anniversary one to remember. Here's to the next 25 years of making a difference in the lives of young people facing cancer.
