ACT Youth Cancer Support Service

About Us

The ACT Youth Cancer Support Service is based at Canberra Hospital and supports young people 15 years and over.   If you are under 15 years of age, you will be referred to one of the specialist Sydney children’s hospitals in Randwick or Westmead, NSW.


The service sees young people from all over the ACT and southern NSW.  We work closely with your treating team to ensure you have all the support you need.

Meet the Staff

Our staff are experts in their fields and have a lot of experience working with people in your age group.  Early on when you come to the hospital, you will be introduced to the whole team so that at any point in your cancer journey you will have someone who can help.


Meghann Lang

Meg has worked in cancer services for over 10 years. Meg completed a graduate certificate in cancer nursing in 2009 and more recently, completed a graduate certificate in adolescent health and wellbeing. Meg has a keen interest in supporting young people diagnosed with cancer and enjoys being an advocate and support for them.

Katie Carlson


AYA Social Worker – Cancer Psychosocial Service

Katie has been a social worker in various hospitals since 2006. Following her move to Canberra in 2014 Katie worked with CanTeen, and in 2015 commenced as the AYA social worker with the Cancer Psychosocial Service at the Canberra Hospital. Katie’s role is to support patient, partners, carers and family members to adjust to the diagnosis of cancer by providing practical, emotional and crisis support. Katie takes a holistic approach to patient care and can also provide counselling support to patients, partners and families throughout the cancer experience.
