Meet Saskia

At just 17, Saskia was diagnosed with a rare form of oral cancer. What followed was overwhelming - multiple surgeries, the loss of her ability to eat and speak normally, and months of painful recovery.

As she struggled with isolation and friends drifting away, Saskia’s confidence collapsed. But when her mum encouraged her to reach out to Canteen, everything began to change.

“Without my cancer experience, I don’t think I’d have the confidence I do now.”

Through monthly donations, Canteen provided Saskia with:

  • Free counselling sessions to process her diagnosis and rebuild self-esteem
  • Peer support programs where she met others who truly understood what it’s like to be diagnosed with cancer
  • A community of hope that reminded her she wasn’t alone

Today, Saskia is studying nursing at university, determined to help others the way Canteen helped her.
