Since the publication of the National Service Delivery Framework in 2008, the majority of goals articulated in this seminal document have been achieved.
The Australian Youth Cancer Framework (AYCF) has been developed to provide an updated vision for adolescent and young adult cancer care across Australia to 2020. Developed with the input of stakeholders from across the country, the AYCF is intended to complement and enhance national and local cancer plans, policies and health service frameworks.
The AYCF builds from the achievements of the last 9 years, incorporating new realities in healthcare and evidence regarding the needs and best practices for supporting young people diagnosed with cancer. It articulates the actions that individuals, services and the broader health system can take to achieve optimal outcomes for young cancer patients and their families.
The principles and priorities outlined in the AYCF will guide implementation planning and service delivery by the Youth Cancer Services into the next decade. It additionally provides direction for AYA cancer-relevant health policy and highlights key research priorities and gaps in evidence.
