Hi, my name is Kiera. I had a Brain Stem Tumor removed when I was eight which resulted in me not being able to move anything besides my big toe or breathe on my own. I spent 474 days in hospital, and it was a huge effort to get some movement back. Although I now need a support worker 24/7, the experience has made me so much braver, stronger and a fighter.
I’ve become compassionate and determined to help people in any way I can. I am caring, loving and super friendly. When someone knocks me down and doesn’t believe in me, it motivates me to prove them wrong. It’s made me realise at the end of the day that it’s so fulfilling to help people in any way, shape or form. I am a very active and adventurous person.
Some of my favorite things to do are shopping, going to the movies, bowling, being out in nature and the outdoors in general. I love being around my family and friends and going on walks and adventures with them. I am a very groovy girl and enjoy being at concerts and listening to music.
I completed my High School Certificate in 2018 and have also completed a Certificate III in Events and Certificate III in Community Services. I am currently completing a Statement of Attainment in Using Social Media Tools at TAFE and a TV Production for Beginners Course at Australian College. On top of that, I volunteer for a variety of charities.
Canteen services have impacted my life hugely. Their counselling services and social groups have had a positive impact on my wellbeing. Being a part of the leadership team has taught me how to better my communication and collaboration skills, accept everyone as a person, increase my friendships and realise that there is no right or wrong. Canteen has shown me that there are people out there that accept me for who I am as a person. I am really grateful to be part of these services.
