Canteen is excited to announce that Hilti Australia has signed on as a 2024 Major Giving Day Partner to support young people who have had their world turned upside down by cancer.

Young people impacted by cancer can often feel scared, isolated and alone and are up to six times more likely to face depression and anxiety than their peers. By partnering with Canteen, Hilti Australia will help young people thrive despite the hurdles that cancer has placed in their way.

The Giving Day campaign, held in March will see all donations over a 24-hour period  doubled by Canteen’s generous partners - in Hilti’s case, to a maximum of $40,000.

Funds raised during the campaign will be committed to Canteen services for  12-25 year-olds dealing with their own diagnosis, a close family member’s cancer or the death of a loved one, including:

  • Counselling & peer support programs that provide vital coping skills and opportunities for connection to help reduce feelings of isolation, depression and anxiety.
  • The Robots Service – that helps young cancer patients stay connected to school, friends and family during treatment when they’re stuck in hospital or unwell at home.

During October, Hilti will also fundraise through sales of a limited-edition bandanna that is available for purchase in Canteen’s Online Shop to support Canteen’s iconic Bandanna Day campaign.

Peter Orchard, Canteen CEO, said: “Every year, another 23,000 young people have their world turned upside down by cancer, whether it’s a close family member’s diagnosis or their own.  Young people aged 12-25 are up to six times more likely to face mental health issues like depression and anxiety than their peers. With Hilti’s support, we can continue to deliver our life-changing support services and help to improve their mental health and overall wellbeing. For that, I want to say a huge thank you to every staff member of Hilti.”

Hilti CEO Samir Kohi said: “At Hilti, we are excited about renewing our partnership for another two years with Canteen, as we continue our mission of building a better future. Creating social impact in our communities remains a core focus of our sustainability strategy. As part of our commitment, we are honored to support young people and families affected by cancer. Since 2010, we have proudly supported Canteen, and formalising our partnership further strengthens our commitment to this great cause. Witnessing the dedication and collaboration of our Hilti team members in supporting Canteen fills us with great enthusiasm and pride for the future. Together, we are making a significant difference in the lives of those in need.”

Canteen would like to thank Hilti CEO Samir Kohi as well as Samantha Stewart, Hilti’s Queensland State Sales Manager, for their unwavering support of Canteen over the past 2 years and helping to bring the partnership to life.  In addition, a huge thanks to all Hilti employees who have got behind the many fundraising activities for Canteen including Golf Days and Trivia Nights.

If you would like to donate towards Canteen’s face to face counselling and peer support services, you can head to Canteen’s Online Shop to purchase a bandanna or donate here.
