Peer Support and Programs
Life can feel pretty lonely when you’re trying to deal with cancer. Friends often don’t really understand what it’s like (even if they try to) so it can be really helpful and comforting to speak to someone who is in a similar situation to you.
Through Canteen, you can meet other young people living with cancer who totally get what you’re going through.
Speak to other young people online
Join the Canteen Community to connect with other young people in similar situations to you. It can be really helpful to read other people’s real-life stories and realise that you are not alone in what you are feeling.
Attend a Canteen Overnight Program or Recreation Day
Canteen’s Overnight Programs (also known as camps) and Recreation Days give you space away from the daily pressures of living with cancer. You can meet other young people affected by cancer who really understand what you’re going through and learn new ways to cope with cancer.
You can also talk to a young person about what camps are like before you go. These programs don’t only deal with some of the hard stuff, there are always lots of fun activities and chill out time as well! Canteen programs are always free and can be anything from half a day to three days long.
Contact your local Canteen Division to find out more about upcoming events near you.
