I was diagnosed with Stage IV Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer at age of 17, 3 weeks out from graduating High School. I was given 3 months to live at the time, and immediately underwent chemotherapy for 12 months and six weeks of radiation. I was immediately referred to CanTeen by my social worker and was offered counselling, camps, online counselling and workshops.
However, I didn’t fully get to participate in workshops until halfway through and towards the end of my treatment, as I was too sick. I was offered counselling throughout my treatment, which helped me immensely.
As I came to the end of my treatment, I felt immense isolation and grief. CanTeen offered me opportunities that were life changing. I was able to connect and felt a part of a family. I made friends that will last a lifetime and was able to connect with them on levels that I can’t even describe, as it was and is so amazing. CanTeen offers life changing opportunities that help young people deal with cancer, heal, form memories and get support. CanTeen changed my life.
