Kobi Rischin - Guests donated to CanTeen in lieu of gifts for bar mitzvah

I chose to donate to CanTeen because it helps young people, my age, who are suffering from cancer. I saw my Bar mitzvah as an opportunity to make a contribution to a worthy cause.

I would rather help people than receive gifts that I don't need. It made me feel really good that I am able to help others who are less fortunate that me.

Terry Scoble - Guests donated to CanTeen in lieu of gifts for 50th birthday

Cancer affects all age groups and as usual the young youth of our nation seem to be over looked. My brother passed away in 1973 at the age of 19. I wish something like this was around when I lost my brother. I was 14 when he died and had no one to answer all the questions or support groups.

As people get older, it becomes harder to purchase the right gifts without being cheesy. By asking for monetary gifts avoids the embarrassment of buying the wrong or cheap gift in the eyes of other guests.

When I visited the National Office in Sydney, I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the staff in accepting our meagre offer. After posting on Face book our results of the collection I was humbled by the comments that followed.

Celebration Donations

Celebration Donations allows you to celebrate your special occasion while supporting young people living with cancer.

In lieu of receiving gifts at your wedding, birthday, anniversary - or any celebration - request that your guests make a donation to CanTeen instead.

All contributions over $2 are tax deductible and if you provide us with details, receipts will be sent to each person who gives a gift on your behalf. If collecting cash donations on the day, please ensure you use our sponsorship form so we can issue individual receipts to your donating guests.

How can my guests donate?

There are four ways that your family and friends can make a donation:

1. Donate online to your personalised celebration donations page
By following our simple instructions you'll be able to create your own personalised page. Then email your friends and family to invite them to visit the page and make a donation in honour of your event. Not only is it simple and easy to have your guests donate online, but they will automatically receive a tax deductible receipt once they have made the donation.
Create your own online celebration donation page now.

2. Contact CanTeen directly and donate using a credit card
Your guests can contact us directly on 1800 639 614 to make a credit card donation.

3. Send us a cheque
Mail a cheque made out to CanTeen with your details on a note to your nearest CanTeen office.

4. Collect cash donations on the day of the event
By downloading a CanTeen sponsorship form you can collect cash donations directly from your friends and family. Then deposit the money directly into our bank account or drop it into your local CanTeen office.

"We couldn't think of a better way to start our married life!"

Testimonials

"When we were preparing for our wedding, we felt that we didn't really want any gifts as we had already established our home and had everything we needed. We then thought about the idea of setting up a register with a charity organisation.

We chose CanTeen because we were aware of the outstanding work that you do for young people... I was actually a Member of CanTeen 14 years earlier.
To be able to make a difference in the lives of your Members was the most amazing wedding gift we could ask for. We couldn't think of a better way to start our married life!"
